Published by THQ Nordic, the game is a sequel to This is the Police and was released on 31st July 2018. The title enables the players to control their own unique task force as they embrace go through a journey to eradicate evil both internally and externally in order to maintain justice within the society. The Game Review
The game is only playable in single-player version and the only available game mode to play is the campaign. The main story is the continuation of the one left off in its prequel. A new Sheriff takes over at Sharpwood and her name is Lilly Reed. Lilly, who is a young enthusiastic chief has trouble controlling her squad due to the fact that most of her subordinates are corrupt men who find it against their small egos to take orders from a woman.
On the other end, Jack Boyd the previous game’s main character who was on the verge of retirement appears to have become the adviser to the Sheriff in an attempt to evade justice. Similar to its previous edition, This is the Police 2 is a mix of strategy and management where players are responsible for controlling the squad and making decisions that will influence future events that occur in the game. Every challenge directly involves the player’s participation in one way or another.
Unlike the first game, however, the players can now equip their squad members with numerous weapons including tasters and stun grenades that more or less help them on their missions. Apart from that, the game also portrays the lifestyle and mindset of the people in Sharpwood who seem to be nothing but cruel and ignorant. The vast majority are poverty-stricken men and women have no choice but to succumb to the rich who, in turn, exploit them for their own personal gains.
Apart from the drama itself, the game features action scenes as well in the form of tactical missions and SWAT assaults where the player’s squad completely immerses into the action. The main action is turn-based so whatever the player decides to implement can only be applied during their turn. The main preference throughout the game is to avoid gunfights between the police and criminals due to the fact that multiple deaths occur from both sides.
Overall, This is the Police 2 is a very difficult and complex game that is only suitable for those players who have a strong interest in strategy-based games. The players are not just required to fight crime and stop corruption on the outside but are also faced with the burden of maintaining peace and integrity within the police force as well.
