The Film Review
Released on 19th March 2016, the film is set eighteen months after the events of Man of Steel where Superman has become more or less a suspicious person.
The Plot in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Superman receives criticism on a daily basis from the media and government officials. At the same time, Superman and Batman develop a form of mistrust with each other as they doubt each other’s intentions.
Meanwhile, Lex Luthor gains access to Zod’s body as well as the Kryptonian ship. At the same time, Bruce attends a gala at LexCorp where he steals a form of encrypted data from there. He decrypts the data only to find out that Lex has been working on developing metahumans that are enriched with unique and special powers.
Threatened by Superman’s powers, Batman prepares himself by obtaining Kryptonite and crafting a spear and grenade based off it. On the other end, a bomb smuggled by Lex goes off, killing everyone in parliament except Superman.
The criticism increases as Superman goes into self-exile. Lex, in order to bring Superman back from exile, captures his adoptive mother Martha and reveals to Superman as to how he has been provoking him as well as Batman to fight against each other.
Lex’s plan works as Batman makes an appearance and attacks Batman with his unique weapons. They soon make peace thanks to Lois Lane’s revelation about Martha. The two then head out and fight Lex’s Kryptonian monster which he summons as part of his backup plan.
Superman realizes the monster’s weakness and hits him directly on the heart with Batman’s Kryptonian spear. The monster retaliates and kills Superman before dying off. The film ends with Batman revealing his intentions of forming an army based on metahumans to save the Earth from external threats.
The Movie Production
The DC Extended Universe has been under criticism ever since its beginning. Dawn of Justice managed to receive more criticism in comparison to Man of Steel. The film was particularly criticized for its casting of Ben Affleck as Batman. Fans argued that Affleck’s persona was anything but suitable to fit the seriousness of Batman’s character.
The Movie Score
Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL were hired to compose the main score for the film. The deluxe edition of the score album contains five bonus tracks namely, Blood of my Blood, Vigilante, May I Help You, Mr. Wayne?, They Were Hunters, and Fight Night. The soundtrack was released officially on 18th March 2018 by WaterTower Music.
The Bottom Line
Overall, Dawn of Justice was one of the many DC movies that was received with mostly negative reviews. Despite being a box office hit, the film was termed as a failure.
