Let me start by saying that Den of Thieves 2: Pantera did not hang around my theatre for long at all! It was only on a few screens and I sure that after just a couple of weeks, they stopped showing it altogether! Hopefully, it does well enough so that Christian Gudegast can make the other movies he has planned for this series. I have read that he has more movies planned, each one based on a real heist and that sounds awesome.

The Movie Review
I watched the first Den of Thieves movie like a day before I went to see this and it made for a fun back-to-back kind of experience. That first movie was a fun action thriller about a gang of bank robbers that were trying to steal from the Federal Reserve Bank. The big twist of the first movie was that you thought Pablo Schriber was the mastermind, but it was actually O’Shea Jackson Jr’s Donnie who in the first movie, you felt was just the getaway driver and some kind of informant for Big Nick as his LA cops trying to stop this crew.
Gerard Butler’s Big Nick Returns for Another High-Stakes Heist
Well, after the events of the first movie, life has not been kind to Gerard Butler’s Big Nick. Nick’s wife has left him and he has been suspended by the LAPD. Donnie and his crew of “Panthers” are lining up another big heist in France and Nick gets wind of this and heads there to try and stop them. Putting this crew away has become a real obsession for Nick and this ends up getting him in some real trouble.
I am going to be very careful here so I do not spoil the movie as like the first one, there are some great twists and turns here. Basically, Nick worms his way into Donnie’s crew and you are always wondering if he is part of the crew, setting them up, or something else. It is really well done and it did keep me guessing right until the end. Speaking of the end, and again, no spoilers, man this better get a third movie as it sets it up perfectly for another movie.
The Real Heist That Inspired Den of Thieves 2: Pantera
The movie is actually based on a real heist, the 2003 Antwerp Diamond Heist which is cool. The European setting and the whole thing with the mafia give this movie a very different style from the last movie. Also, the original movie was accused of taking things way too seriously, but that is not the case here. Granted, it is still an action thriller, but it has more of a sense of humor about it this time around and Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson have fantastic chemistry together. For a third movie, I would not mind them leaning into the laughs just a tad more once again.
Will There Be a Den of Thieves 3?
From what I have read, it did not blow up the box office, but it does appear that around the globe, it has done pretty well. This gets my hopes up for a third movie, actually, the director and Gerard Butler himself have said that they want to make several more movies and Gerard Butler has stated that he does not want to wait as long to make a third movie as he did a second one so that is awesome to hear. I still wonder why my theatre pulled this so quickly as there were a decent number of people there when I saw it.
Should You Watch Den of Thieves 2: Pantera?
Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is a really fun action thriller and a step up from the previous movie. I could see this becoming the next awesome action movie franchise and as I said, I so hope that they make a third movie. While this would still be a fun heist action thriller if you have not seen the first movie. I highly recommend that you do not do that and that you watch the original Den of Thieves first.
