Grease

It is true what they say, Grease is the word! Grease is one of those movies where I have had every variation of it possible. This is a movie I have had on VHS, laserdisc, DVD, and Blu-Ray and just recently, I finally got around to getting the 2018 Grease 4K 40th Anniversary set and that is what I am basing this review on. Grease was originally released all the way back in 1978 and it is still regarded as one of the greatest musicals of all time.

How to Download Grease

Grease was released on June 16, 1978. You can download or stream the film from a digital platform. Click on the Download button at the end of this review and make your choice. If you want to see more movies with John Travolta, check out reviews of Pulp Fiction (1994) or Wild Hogs (2007).

The Movie Review

To be honest, at this point is there anyone who does not know at the very least the gist of what Grease is about? Set in the late 50s, a summer romance happens between the tough guy, Danny Zuko, and the super sweet Sandy Olson who is visiting the USA from Australia. They think their “summer loving” is over as Sandy has to go back home, but that is not the case.

Sandy ends up staying and joining Rydell High where she makes friends with a girl called Frenchie who is part of a group called The Pink Ladies. Danny on the other hand is part of the toughest click at school, The T-Birds. The T-Birds and The Pink Ladies rule the school and both Danny and Sandy tell their respective groups about their summer loving.

A Timeless Classic

This is just an all-time classic and Grease is one of those movies where it does not matter how many times you have seen it, it always makes you smile. The songs are great, the performances are fantastic and it is truly one of the best musicals of all time. It is just as good today as it was all those years ago. The thing is, if you do not like Grease, you do not like Grease, nothing I or anyone else says will change that. However, for those of us who do like this movie, we do not just like it, we tend to love it.

4K 40th Anniversary Release

The 2018 4K 40th Anniversary release is the best that Grease has ever looked. The quality of the 4K restoration is fantastic, the whole movie looks brighter and more colorful than it ever has before. The Blu-Ray looked ok, but once you see the 4K release, there is honestly no going back as it is so well done. I never thought that any of the other releases of Grease were dull, but it is like night and day when you see them side by side here.

Enhanced Sound Quality

When it comes to the sound quality, of course, it has been enhanced to support whatever the latest Dolby format they have going is at the moment. I have a 5.1 setup and the sound was epic, but to be fair, it always is with Grease and I have heard it so many times, that I will be honest and say that I did not notice a huge difference. Although, there are many reviews that do say the quality of the sound here is the best it has ever been.

Final Thoughts

At this point, there is nothing really else to say about Grease as a movie. You either love it or you do not, it is that simple. I for one love it and I am so glad that I finally got around to getting that 40th Anniversary 4K release. If you are a fan of Grease and you have the ability to watch movies in 4K, I highly, highly recommend you add this to your collection.
