I had sky-high hopes for Him! Starring Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers, Him certainly had a very attention-grabbing and interesting trailer. Do not some crossed wires on my end, I thought that this was the latest Jordan Peele movie, but that is not actually the case. This is just produced by his production company, and it is actually directed by Justin Tipping who is also one of the people behind the script.
Where to Watch Him
Him was released on September 19, 2025. You can expect it to become available for streaming on Peacock and other digital platfroms such as Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV.
The Movie Review
First Impressions
Let me start with the positives. Many people think of Marlon Wayans as a comedy actor, and he is fantastic at that kind of stuff; however, he can also really deliver when it comes to more intense and dramatic roles. His role as Isaiah White is one of the most intense and dramatic yet. However, there are little moments of quirkiness that shine through. You are kind of on edge the whole time he is on the screen due to how volatile and over the top he is.
Isaiah is the starting quarterback for the San Antonio Saviors football team. Isaiah’s career is coming to an end, and this is where Tyriq Withers Cam Cade comes into play. Cam is a football prodigy, and he is given the chance to go to a special one-week camp at Isaiah’s house so that he can turn him into the next quarterback for the Saviors.
Cam suffered a concussion due to an assault, and it is clearly still affecting him. However, while he is at this weird training camp, the intense and brutal training and rituals that Isaiah has him doing start to become too much. You just want to scream at the screen to tell Cam to get the hell out of there. He clearly knows that there is something weird and sinister going on here, but he decides to stay. To be fair, Cam is a likable character and you do root for him, but I honestly think that the trailer for Him is better than the actual movie.
Issues with the Story
I really, really wanted to love Him, and from the trailer, I was sure that I was going to. However, I have to say, the trailer pretty much gives away exactly what this movie is about. Sure, I was not certain how it was going to end and what Cam was going to do. Getting to that point, though, I feel like the trailer pretty much showed me everything that was going to happen right up until the end.
The movie only lasts a little over 90s minutes, but there is just something off and dare I say, kind of boring. To be fair, Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Wither deliver 100 percent with their performances. It is just the story, and the mystery is not all that interesting, and as I said, the trailer just shows off all this has to offer! I will say that the movie looks fantastic and there are some truly trippy visuals, but again, they show that all in the trailer.
Final Thoughts on Him
I went into Him with such high hopes, and while I would not say that I hated the movie, I did not love it either. By the time the credits rolled, I was pretty disappointed. I just do not see this being better on a second watch either. I would not recommend making the effort to go and see this in the theatre; wait for it to hit streaming if you are a little interested in it.
