Look, I know that some may see that His Only Son is a faith-based movie and be like “nope” and say it is not for them. To be fair, I have watched a lot of faith-based movies and while this is not amazing, it is one of the better ones I have seen. To be fair, I think the fact it is based on one of the more well-known and brutal bible stories does make it more appealing.

The Movie Review
I am sure that many of you have already figured it out, but His Only Son is based on the story of Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son Isaac. Now, even if you have not actually read this story in Genesis 22, chances are you are at least familiar with this tale. I think that makes this a movie that is easier to sell to people that usually are not into faith-based movies.
Anyway, the way the movie is presented is quite interesting. Abraham, Isaac, and his two “assistants” are making their way up the mountain of Moriah where Isaac is to be sacrificed. Even if you are not someone that is into the bible and religious stories, this as a premise is interesting and grabs your attention.
The movie is not just these people walking up the mountain for Isaac to be killed! We get to see flashbacks from Abraham’s life where he and his wife, Sarah wished for a son and the hardships they had along the way. It is actually way more interesting than you would think and it helps give you more backstory about Abraham and the kind of man that he is.
I will admit, I am not someone that Homer Simpson would refer to as Charlie Church so I only knew the basics of this story. However, I found it to be very interesting and I think that our lead actors, especially Sara Seyed as Sarah did a fantastic job of making you care for these characters.
Now, while there is a fair bit about His Only Son that I do like, at the end of the day, this is a biblical movie and one e that had a rather modest budget. This modest budget is evident right from the start when we see the costumes and especially the hair, my goodness, do these wigs look super fake!
At the end of the day, they had a budget, I understand that and to be honest, the costumes are not too bad. Yet, those wigs, it was the wigs that honestly took me out of some of the more emotional moments of the movie and that kind of sucks as some of the acting is really good.
I have yet to see a faith-based movie that I would say is amazing, but I can say that His Only Son is a decent religious movie that I did find interesting. I just think if they shaved that running time down a bit and for the love of God, got better wigs, I could have scored this a point higher.
