The Film Review
The film continues the story of Ethan Hunt who receives news that the remains of Solomon Lane’s organization have become a terrorist group entitled The Apostles. Hunt receives instructions to stop the sale of three plutonium cores which can be potentially used to make nuclear weapons.
The mission fails as Hunt chooses to save Luther Stickell’s life, letting the apostles get away. Director of the CIA, Erica Sloane, orders Special Activities Operative August Walker to support Hunt in his retrieval of the plutonium. The duo travel to Paris where they encounter John Lark, however, in a series of events, Lark is killed by Lisa Fraust which forces Hunt to take over and impersonate Lark as he goes through with the exchange.
The mission fails again as the Apostles try to kill Hunt thinking of him as Lark. Hunt’s integrity is questioned by IMF, but it is revealed that Walker is the real John Lark as he attempts to put off three nuclear bombs in Pakistan, India, and China which will wipe out their populations and the only way to stop it is to defuse it before the counter reaches zero. Hunt takes off and after a series of events full of action and intensity, he manages to defuse the bombs with only a single second to spare.
The Mission: Impossible franchise is back and better than ever with its new edition. The film is out, and we get to see Tom Cruise back on the big screen once again as agent Ethan Hunt, leader of the Impossible Missions Force. What makes this film stand out from its previous versions is the presence of Cruise himself.
Tom Cruise performed most of the stunts himself but what stood out the most was when he became the first actor ever to perform a High Altitude, Low Open(HALO) jump on camera. According to director Christopher McQuarrie, the film was delayed for about 9 months because of Cruise’s injury on set while performing one of his iconic stunts. Paramount also released a behind-the-scenes video which showed Cruise learning how to fly a helicopter in order to shoot one of his scenes in mid-air.
Moving on to the movie, we see some new faces who have joined the cast including Henry Cavill who plays the main antagonist, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby. The movie is apparently dark as Hunt can be seen disobeying direct orders with his loyalty being tested as he begins to impersonate John Lark after him being killed.
The scenario revolves around the Impossible Missions Force and the CIA going against Hunt by making everyone believe that Hunt is somehow attached to the Apostles and their plan to wipe out one-third of the total population of Earth.
Despite only managing to go over $156 million so far on the box office, the film holds some seriously intense action performed by Tom Cruise himself. Overall, the plot is solid, the acting is amazing, and the stunts are truly unbelievable.
