I thought the first live action Paddington movie was a lot of fun and that Paddington 2 was even better, Hugh Grant in Paddington 2 was just an absolute riot! So with that being said, Paddington in Peru was a movie I had very high hopes for, perhaps a tad too high. I say that because I had a very fun time with this movie, but I do think that I ever so slightly prefer Paddington 2.

The Movie Review – Paddington’s Big Jungle Adventure
One of the things I was most excited about with Paddington in Peru was the fact that Antonio Banderas was in the movie as I am a huge fan of his. Antonio Banderas had some very big shoes to fill though as Hugh Grant was epic in the last movie. As well as Antonio Banderas, there is some real star power here, Olivia Coleman plays a main role and all of the actors playing The Brown family reprise their roles here.
A New Adventure in Peru
The plot this time around takes Paddington out of London. Paddington gets a letter saying that Aunt Lucy misses him and that she is acting rather odd. Paddington being the lovely fellow that he is gets the Browns together and they make a trip to Peru to the Home for Retired Bears to make sure that Aunt Lucy is ok.
Once there, they find that Aunt Lucy is missing and the Reverend Mother of the home informs them that she went missing in the jungle! Of course, Paddington and the Browns are worried, but they find a map, a map which Paddington thinks will lead them to Aunt Lucy. Thus beings our wild adventure with Paddington through the jungle as he tries to save Aunt Lucy.
Antonio Banderas as Hunter Cabot
Now, Paddington and the Browns are not exactly seasoned explorers, but this is where Antonio Banderas’s Hunter Cabot comes into play. He is a boat captain/explorer/treasure hunter and he agrees to help Paddington, but he has some ulterior motives that show up later on in the adventure. I will say that the movie is a little on the predictable side, but it is still a lot of fun and I liked how Hunter was not just this one dimensional villain like Hugh Grant’s Phoenix Buchanan in the last movie, they do give him a lot of depth and personality.
A Stunning Visual Experience
Like the last two movies, Paddington looks so adorable, the CGI is very well done and due to the Peru jungle setting, Paddington in Peru has a very different look than the previous two movies. While I do prefer the second movie, I think changing the location like they did for this third movie was the right call.
An Exciting Ending and Hopes for the Future
No spoilers, but the ending scenes is just awesome and it has me so excited for a fourth movie that I hope they do not take too long to make it. Like the previous two Paddington movies, Paddington in Peru is a movie that the whole family can have a lot of fun with. It has some laughs and adventure and it also has a lot of heart….. and marmalade, you can never forget about the marmalade.
