I was a teenager when the first Scream came out, and I loved it! The whole franchise is actually something that I love. While I would always put Scream 3 at the bottom of my list, I still like that movie; it is just my least favorite in the series. Scream 7 was easily up there as one of my most anticipated movies of the year, and I thought that the trailers looked fantastic. Although I will say, in typical modern Hollywood fashion, they showed some of the best bits in the trailer!

The Movie Review
Scream Franchise Evolution and Characters
After Scream 4 and the TV series, I thought that was it for the franchise. However, Scream 5 and 6 were a lot of fun, and the introduction of new characters in Sam and Tara Carpenter, along with the niece and nephew of Randy Meeks, Chad and Mindy, these would be known as the core four, was awesome. The new cast blended really well with the old one, and the series looked like it was just going from strength to strength.
Scream 7 Story and Cast Changes
However, there was some behind-the-scenes drama before Scream 7 started shooting, and that resulted in both Sam and Tara not returning for Scream 7. I do not want to go into the ins and outs of what caused this, but I was bummed out as I thought they were great characters. Still, having Neve Campbell’s original final girl, Sydney Prescott, back as the main character was something that I thought was very cool.
This still has Chad and Mindy in it, so we once again are blending the original Scream movies with the newer ones. This time around, Sydney has made a good life for herself in a small town where she lives with her husband Mark and her kids, most notably Tatum, named after Rose McGowan’s character from the first movie. Sydney, as you would expect, is a very overprotective mother, and that does have her butting heads with her daughter.
Scream 7 Ghostface Twist and Reveal
Sydney gets a call from someone doing the Ghostface voice, and this does not faze her; she has heard it a million times before. However, this time, it is Stu from the original Scream who is apparently back as Ghostface! On one hand, this is awesome. Stu was so over the top and fun in that original movie, and Matthew Lillard is just a really cool actor, so seeing him back was great. However, why did they reveal this before the movie came out? If they could have kept this under wraps, this would have been such a great surprise.
Like many people, I was wondering how the heck Stu was still alive. Well, no spoilers here, but the reveal of the Ghostface killer in Scream 7… sucks! I called who it was the moment they came on screen, and I was pretty smug for doing so, according to my wife. This was such a letdown. I would say that this is the WORST Ghostface reveal, even worse than Roman Bridger in Scream 3.
There are some great moments in Scream 7. The scene where you see Tatum trying to shoot Ghostface through the walls, which was spoiled in the trailer, is super tense. There is a crazy scene in the bar with one of the most insane kills that the franchise has to offer as well. There are more than a few things to like here, but there are also some things that I was not a huge fan of at all.
Final Thoughts on Scream 7
I was sure that Mark, Sydney’s husband, was in on it at one moment. Mark, despite being the police chief, is freaking useless. I swear this guy would trip over his own feet and impale himself on Ghostface’s knife before he managed to stop them. The movie, to be fair, kept me interested until the full reveal of who Ghostface was, and when that happened, it just sucked all the fun out of the movie for me.
