Tangled is a downloadable 3D animated musical film produced and distributed by Walt Disney. The film is partially based on the German fairy tale known as Repunzel. Released on 14th November 2010, the film is directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard as it features a voice cast consisting of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, and Donna Murphy.

Tangled Story
Tangled follows the story of a princess named Rapunzel who gets abducted at an early age by a woman known as Mother Gothel. Rapunzel’s hair contains magical powers that can heal any injuries and illnesses and for this reason, Gothel keeps her locked in a tower so she can maintain her own physical youth.
On Rapunzel’s 18th birthday, she asks Gothel to leave the tower, but her request is denied. Rapunzel asks Gothel to get her a specific kind of paint which will take her 3 days to travel back and forth. Meanwhile, a thief named Flynn escapes from the Queen’s castle with the princess’ crown and inadvertently finds the tower where Rapunzel is stuck.
Rapunzel traps Flynn and hides the crows, making a deal of giving him back the crown in exchange for taking her to see the source of the lanterns. The two then make their way through to a pub where they are encountered by the Queen’s royal guards. The two escape into a cave where Rapunzel uses the power of her magical glowing her to escape.
At the same time, it is revealed that Flynn’s real name is Eugene Fitzherbert. The two eventually fall in love and as soon as they are about to kiss, Flynn’s ex-accomplices along with Gothel show up and detain Flynn. Rapunzel realizes how she is the long-lost princess and confronts Gothel about this matter.
At the same time, Flynn escapes thanks to the Duckling regulars and reaches the tower. Gothel stabs Flynn whereas Flynn slices off a piece of Rapunzel’s hair, making it lose its magic thereby transforming Gothel into mere dust. Flynn is saved by Rapunzel’s tears as she returns to her original home where two eventually get married.
The Production of the Film
The production of Tangled took approximately six years at a cost of $260 million, making it the most expensive animated film ever made. The film consisted of mixed artistry by combining CGI together with traditional animation. One of the leading CG animators of the film, Glen Keane, initially wanted the film to be represented as 2D however, Disney executives took a step forward and clarified that only a 3D version of this film would be accepted.
One of the main challenges that the animation team faced was creating movements that emulated the soft fluidity of the hand-drawn art found in traditional Disney films. As for creating the character of Flynn, the directors gathered over 30 women only to ask them what they found attractive in a man. Their suggestions were then taken into consideration and directors wanted him to look like the most attractive male hero yet.
The Music
Moving on to the main score, the original soundtrack of the film was composed by Alan Menken who stated his desire of composing a score which would have a hint of 1960s folk-rock element as well. The soundtrack went on to peak at number 44 on the Billboard 200.
The Tangled Review
Overall, Tangled is a very sleekly designed film that contains all the ingredients to make it entertaining for viewers of all ages. The film did exceptionally well at the box office by generating a revenue of over $591 million. The film also received numerous awards, making it a must-watch with the family!
