The Cuphead Show is yet another awesome animated series based on a video game to be put out by Netflix. Based on the fantastic shooter released back in 2017, it retains many of the fun elements of that game but fleshes things out immensely. Cuphead is such a good show that your knowledge or experience of the video game before you watch it does not matter!

The Movie Review
The first season of The Cuphead Show features 12 episodes. There are two which are a double parter, but the rest of the season features stand-alone episodes where the story is all contained in that one episode. The first thing to talk about here is the way that the show looks.
The video game when it was released was highly praised for its 1930s style visuals and animation and that has been retained here. The show looks fantastic and is unlike anything else that you will find on Netflix or TV. It just has so much charm to it and it captures your attention right away.
The Cuphead Show also has some fantastic voice acting too, each character sounds great and the soundtrack could not be any more fitting. The basic schtick of The Cuphead Show is that we have Cuphead and his brother Mugman and they are always getting into some kind of trouble. Their father figure, Elder Kettle is always at his wit’s end trying to keep the boys on task.
Each episode starts off with them doing something normal like a chore, running an errand, or something like that. However, things go off the rails very quickly and, in that way, it reminds me of a show like Regular Show. Each episode is going to make you last and the comedy here is very slapstick in its execution which makes The Cuphead Show something that all ages can have fun with.
At the start of an episode, you never know what the heck is going to go down. From Cuphead losing his soul to the devil in a game of skeeball, them breaking into a club, having to look after a baby, being chased by ghosts, and more. Each episode is fun and while they are short, I think that the length is perfect for the kind of slapstick humor that they have gone for here.
A new character is introduced in the show called Ms. Chalice and she is a ton of fun. What is cool about Ms. Chalice is that the people making the show were able to get ahead of the game as she was also included in the video game as DLC so her inclusion in the show was very clever.
I cannot think of many other TV shows that have the same kind of universal appeal as The Cuphead Show does. No matter your age or knowledge of the video game, you will have a great time with this show. Netflix already struck gold with Arcane and Castlevania when it comes to animated vid game adaptations and they can now proudly add The Cuphead Show to that list.
