Now that all 11 seasons of The Walking Dead are done and dusted, I thought it was the perfect time to talk about the show. I watched this as it aired and it was a real appointment viewing for me, especially in the first several seasons. However, before season 11 aired, I watched all 10 seasons again on Disney Plus so the show is quite fresh in my memory.

The Movie Review
The Walking Dead is based on the comic book of the same name and I did actually get into the comic book thanks to getting the collectors edition of the first Walking Dead video game. I know this may sound crazy to some, but I preferred the show to the comic book. Granted, I only read up to issue 100, but the show was where it was at for me.
I am pretty sure that you do not need me to tell you that The Walking Dead is about people trying to survive in a zombie apocalypse, actually, an interesting thing about the show is that they are never called that, they are always called Walkers or some other nickname that people come up with.
Our main character is a police officer called Rick Grimes who awakens after an accident and the apocalypse is already in full swing. Unsure of what the hell is going on, Rick sets out to try and find his family, which he does. That first season is so well done and seeing Rick reunite with his wife and son was awesome, but there is added drama as his best friend Shane has been hooking up with his wife Lori!
That first season is the show just getting on its feet and I liked how each season would have its own threats for our group to deal with. From trying to survive on a farm, dealing with The Governor, dealing with Negan and his Saviors, and taking on The Whisperers before ending up at the Commonwealth.
This is a show that puts our characters through hell and at the end of the day, I would say the best thing that The Walking Dead did was make you love and hate certain characters. The characters, I loved, I really loved the likes of Daryl, Ezekiel, Maggie, and Michonne for example. On the flip side of this the characters I hated such as Lori, Andrea, Hornsby, and Alpha, I really did hate!
The Walking Dead is easily one of my favorite shows of all time, but it is not perfect. I think that for as epic as The Saviors/Negan arc was, it did go on a bit too long. Also, speaking of Rick, while I felt that they handled his exit as well as they could. I hated the way that they had Michonne leave the show.
I get that they felt their hands were tied here, but I just did not see any world or situation where Michonne would have left her two kids, Judith and RJ like she did, even if it was to try and find their father Rick! To be fair, any show that runs for 11 seasons and has multiple spin-off shows is always going to have a few things that bug you, but the good by a mile outweighs the bad with The Walking Dead.
One thing that I loved about the show was that there were many times when you felt no one was safe! This show could be quite brutal with killing off main characters, to be honest, I think Fear the Walking Dead did this better. However, there are still many shocking deaths in this original series.
I will say that the special effects in this show are a mixed bag. The practical effects are some of the best that I have ever seen in a TV show. However, it has been a long-running joke that the CGI in The Walking Dead can look downright terrible at times and it is sometimes very noticeable.
Look, by this point, you know what The Walking Dead! For me, this is one of the greatest modern TV shows we have and it is far more than just a show about “zombies.” It is a show about people, people who are willing to do anything to survive and protect those that they love. I love this show so much that I bought it on DVD, then upgraded to Blu-Ray and if they make a 4K boxset, I will be there for that too!
