The Wild Robot

I am a huge fan of DreamWorks Animation and when I heard that The Wild Robot was being done by Chris Sanders, the guy who gave us How To Train Your Dragon as well as some other animated classics, I was very excited to check this one out. I got to go to an early screening of this and I had a blast, it is one of the most emotional and lovely DreamWorks movies that I have seen and probably the best animated movie I have seen this year, which is saying something as I thought Transformers One was a lot of fun too.

The Wild Robot Movie Review

Lupita Nyong’o is the lead, playing Roz, a shipwrecked robot on an island with no people, only animals. However, we also have Pedro Pascal as a rather interesting fox called Fink and Kit Connor as Brightbill, an adorable little Canadian Goose. While those are the leads, The Wild Robot also has a stacked support cast too.

I got a massive kick out of Mark Hamill being in this movie. However, as well as him, we also have the likes of Sally herself, Catherine O’Hara who was awesome in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Plus there is Bill Nighy, Ving Rhames, and Matt Berry as well. I am sure I am missing someone, but the point is, this is an amazing cast and they all do a wonderful job bringing this story to life.

A Heartwarming Story of Survival and Friendship

The story of The Wild Robot is one of the most heartwarming and charming stories of any movie that I have seen in 2024. Roz is a fancy worker robot who ends up shipwrecked on an island that has no humans on it. Roz starts walking around the island trying to find her purpose when she meets a little fox called Fink.

Most of the animals on the island are scared of her and she accidentally squashes a bunch of geese eggs, leaving only one. Once this goose hatches, it imprints on Roz and sees her as its mother. Roz along with a bit of help from Fink and some of the other animals on the island raises this little goose and calls him Brightbill. Brightbill gets picked on by the other geese on the island and that just makes you love this little guy even more.

Roz’s Journey as a Mother and Protector

It is fun to see Roz become a mother figure and find her place on the island, but as you would expect, things do not exactly go smoothly as she tries to help Brightbill get ready for his migration and him joining other geese! There is some real trouble and Roz and her animal friends have to work together to try and save the island from some other robots that are not as kind as Roz.

A Visual Masterpiece with Heart

Look, The Wild Robot is just a charming movie with a capital C. If you do not have a big smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart at the end of the movie, you are a monster! Hey, just joking, but I am not joking when I say that The Wild Robot is the perfect family movie that everyone can enjoy and feel great after watching. This is one that I will certainly watch again when it is released on 4K.

Oh, before I end this review, I forgot to say, this movie is spectacular looking! The story and the voice acting are so good, that you get sucked into the story and may not notice just how good this movie looks. The quality of the animation and the gorgeous animal designs really do give this movie a ton of personality. I am shocked that there is not a ton of merch for this in the stores right now.
