Anytime I see a movie that has the A24 logo on it, I know that more than likely I am going to be into it. X is a slasher movie, but it is a very unique and interesting one rather than just being a satire of the genre. It is the kind of movie that in typical A24 fashion, slowly eases you in before ramping up the terror and leaving you worried each time you hear a bump in the dark!

The Movie Review
The setting of the movie is a small farmhouse in rural Texas back in 1979. A group of pornographic filmmakers has rented the property from an elderly couple in order to shoot an X-rated flick there. What is interesting is that they want to try and make a “classier” kind of porn movie.
Things move pretty slow at the beginning, but it is never boring and soon the elderly folks they are renting the place from find out what they are up to. To say that all hell breaks loose is a massive understatement. A crazed killer starts stalking and killing them and we have your classic fight for survival.
I know that I am making this sound like your typical slasher movie and it does have some of those classic slasher tropes. However, I felt that X was very much its own thing and it has a pretty powerful message to it as well. It is not packed with blood and guts and while it is graphic, it is more about the disturbing nature of the kills rather than the buckets of blood that gets under your skin.
As things ramp up, you are on the edge of your seat, unsure who to trust and truth be told, unsure of what is going on in some parts. It is all done very well thanks to an incredibly talented cast featuring Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, and Martin Henderson to name just a few. There is not a weak link in this movie when it comes to the actors, they are all very much on their A-game that is for sure.
I had an absolute blast watching X. I am a huge horror/slasher movie fan and this one felt familiar, but more than added its own twist on things. If you enjoy a good and clever slasher movie, I would not count on there being any that are better than this one here being released in 2022. A fun fact about X is that they also filmed a prequel movie with this and that is due for release next year!
