I pretty much had to be forced to watch Yellowjackets by my wife, but man I am so glad she persisted! This is one of the best TV shows of the last few years and I was captivated from the first episode all the way to the season finale. The show as I write this has just one season, but a second season is due to start in March 2023, plus it has already been renewed for a third season!

The Movie Review
Ok, talking about Yellowjackets is kind of tough as it is the sort of show that has so much going on and you do not want any of it spoiled before you start. The premise of the show revolves around a high school girls’ soccer team from New Jersey. These are your typical teenage girls with all the teenage drama that comes with it.
In 1996 they are on their way to a soccer tournament when tragedy strikes. The plane they are on crash lands deep in the Canadian wilderness and there are many casualties. Only one adult survives, but he is in bad shape after a horrific injury and some life-saving surgery, so it is up to the girls to band together to survive.
As you would expect with a group of teenage girls, their survival is made all the more complicated by the teenage drama that they have going on. These young ladies are lost for 19 months, 19 months of having to fight for survival, and some of them are willing to go to great lengths, some step up as leaders, and some even go to a really dark place.
That alone makes Yellowjackets sound like an awesome show, doesn’t it? Well, the whole being lost in the wilderness is only half of the show. You see, the show also has the girls over 20 years later when they are all grown up too. We get to see how they have or have not adjusted to life and it is truly fascinating stuff.
We also get some flashbacks of events that happened before the crash too! In many ways and I know this is a lazy comparison to make, but the format of the show makes me think of stuff like Lost and Once Upon a Time. With how the show has the characters at different points in their lives and it makes for such compelling viewing.
The casting here is great with a solid dual cast. We have one group of actors playing the teenagers and another playing the adults, any show that has Juliet Lewis in it is always going to grab my attention! The acting in this show is just first-rate all the way as is the way it looks, especially the stuff in the wilderness.
While I will admit that at first, I found the 1996 survival stuff way more interesting, as we got towards the end of the season, I was just as invested in their adult lives as I was in their fight for survival. There really is not a bad episode in the series’ entire 10-episode run and I fully intend to watch it again before the second season starts and this is coming from a guy that did not want to watch this!
