Evil Dead Burn

When the 2013 Evil Dead reboot came out, I have to be honest and say that I was not on board. How the heck do you do The Evil Dead without Ash? was what I thought, but to be fair, Evil Dead 2013 wasn’t bad at all. I will admit, the post-credit scene with Ash made me more angry than happy as I felt if you were moving on without Ash, don’t have him there at all! Sure, it is a fun little nod, but it just did not click with me at all.

Where to Watch Evil Dead Burn

Evil Dead Burn was released on July 10, 2026. You can expect to be able to stream the film from a HBO Max a couple of months later.

The Movie Review

A New Era of Pure Horror

Fast forward ten years later and we get the incredible Evil Dead Rise, which was just a ton of fun. I have a whole lot of nostalgia for the Evil Dead movies I grew up watching as a teenager, but if I take off my nostalgia goggles, Evil Dead Rise is probably my favorite movie in the franchise. It was awesome that we now had Ash vs the Evil Dead as a TV show that kept Ash’s story going, but we also had a new Evil Dead franchise that moved on without it, being grounded more in horror than blending horror and comedy.

Connecting to the Evil Dead Universe

Just three short years later, Evil Dead was back, this time with Francis Galluppi writing and directing the movie. Evil Dead Burn is an actual sequel to Evil Dead Rise, but in a really interesting way. It shares the same opening as Evil Dead Rise, with Jessica coming out of the water as a Deadite and causing chaos. Only this time, the chaos that Jessica is causing is to do with the Price family.

We find out very early in the movie that the Price family is directly tied to the world of the Evil Dead. The deceased grandfather, Benjamin Price, was part of the Circle of the Wise Men that studied the book of the dead, the Necronomicon, and they also found the Kandarian Dagger, which could kill Deadites. It is a very cool way to connect our new cast of characters to the world which fans of the series know very well. However, I would also say that it gives you enough backstory here so that even those not all that familiar with the Evil Dead could follow along.

Meet the Price Family

The eldest son of the Price clan, Will, dies in a car accident caused by Jessica, who also possesses him, and starts the events of what Evil Dead Burn is all about. The Price family is made up of Will’s widow, Alice, who is our main character in the movie. Along with Joseph, Will’s brother, who is also responsible for this mess! There is also Will’s wife, and we have Will’s parents, Susan and Edgar, along with the grandmother, who is battling dementia. Let me just say, I was not a fan of the Price family, especially Susan.

All Hell Breaks Loose

After the funeral, they all go back to their big family home, and that is where all hell breaks loose. You see, the Deadites know that the Kandarian Dagger is there, somewhere in the Price house, and they will possess and kill everyone until they get it. Alice is the real star here, and she puts up one hell of a fight to try and survive and take down the Deadites.

Blood, Guts, and Standout Mayhem

We then get a series of insane scenes, one of which is absolutely epic. The camera follows Alice, and we just see all of this mayhem happening around her; it is so well done and easily the standout scene in the movie. The movie is packed with gore; it is one of the goriest and one of the most over-the-top movies I have seen in a while, and this was by far my favorite aspect of the movie.

Verdict: Style Over Substance

I felt that Evil Dead Burn was a movie that was 100 percent style over substance, but that is not necessarily a bad thing at all. I really did have fun with this movie; I just felt that the overall story and the characters did not click with me the same as they did in Evil Dead Rise. There was just a little something missing here, and as I write this, I still do not know what that is. I liked this movie, but I have a feeling it will be one that I like even more the second time I watch it.
