Rage 2 is the best first-person shooter of 2019 and one of the best games I have played in a long time. That is a strong way to start this review off, but I am really quite blown away at how fantastic Rage 2 is. ID and Avalanche really have created something very special here and I see it being a game that most people fall in love with.

The Game Review
There is a story in Rage 2 and it does follow on from the first game, but that really does not matter. You play as a Ranger, basically the last of the super cops and you are on a mission to put a stop to this mutated race of people who think they are the evolution of man. They are called The Authority.
Rage 2 is a game that is all about the gameplay. I am not saying the story is bad or anything like that and you do meet some memorable characters, but you will blow through the story in about 12 hours. Yet you can easily put 100 plus hours into this game as there is just so much to do.
Playing as a Ranger, you have abilities that no one else on the planet has and you really do feel like a badass. You have three different progression trees that you can work through thanks to the three “helpful” people that you come across. These can give you all kinds of perks and it is up to you how you use your points to improve yourself.
2 has a very interesting way of handling weapons. Instead of being able to just pick up any weapons you want. You need to come across them in the game and they are weapons that only Rangers can use. I actually liked the way that the game handled giving you new weapons, but it is a little bit slow paced compared to the rest of the game.
There is just so much to do in Rage 2, the problem you will have is knowing where to start! Your map is full of stuff to do from story missions, side missions, races, vaults and so on. Also, the game is always moving you forward. From getting cash, new weapons, abilities and so on. Rage 2 always has you moving forward and that makes you always want to play it for just five minutes more.
The post-apocalyptic land that Rage 2 is set in is awesome. There are distinct regions in the game that have their own settlers in them. They really did a great job in making the different areas have their own look and style. This is another reason why the game keeps you playing as you always feel like there could be something new around the corner.
Combat in Rage 2 is excellent. The game has some truly amazing set pieces and thanks to the level design. Any time you get into a big scuffle, you are always having fun as the areas are designed with combat in mind. In some ways, the combat reminds me of Doom, but I would say that Rage is actually more fun.
The enemies come at you thick and fast, but they never feel too overwhelming. Sometimes things can get a little hairy when you have to take down a lot of enemies at once. The bosses, on the other hand, can be really tough and for me, these were the most challenging parts of the game.
Rage 2 also features vehicle sections and apart from a couple of sections of the story, these are not something you “have” to do. The vehicles are actually pretty cool and you can do things like destroy a convoy, race other people and just steal any vehicle that you find laying around the wasteland.
I really cannot praise Rage 2 enough. I enjoyed the first game, but Rage 2 is some next level stuff. This really is one of the most fun first-person shooters that I have played in years. I would go as far as to say that Rage 2 is a game that I really cannot see anyone not having a great time with.
