American Truck Simulator – Forest Machinery

I have spent far more time with this series than I ever thought I would, however, American Truck Simulator – Forest Machinery has sucked me back in. Actually, I spent a fair bit of time with ATS recently as the Washington update still feels very fresh to me, but getting a new batch of DLC that focuses on heavy hauling really did pique my interest.

The DLC Review

In case you do not know the idea of this series is to simulate what it is like to be an American truck driver. You need to get your load where it needs to be on time and of course without causing a lot of damage as you do! This sounds like it would be easy to do, but this is a far more challenging game than many people realize and this latest DLC makes it even more challenging.

Oregon and Washington are known for their logging communities and now you can help them out! These folks have their hands full and they need you to bring them specialized equipment to make their job easier. The thing is you making their job easier, is making your way harder! You see heavy hauling has a very different feel to it and that I feel will make or break American Truck Simulator – Forest Machinery for you.

Some people lay ATS and do not really dabble too much in the heavy hauling. I personally love it and in this new expansion, you have all kinds of crazy stuff to haul. A log loader, log stacker, mulcher, and forwarder are some of the big ass pieces of equipment you need to haul! These are super heavy so you also have some new trailers to make use of as well.

There is also a cool headache rack and a little chainsaw for your cab that you can get as well which is neat if you are a collector like me. The actual driving is the most challenging I have encountered in ATS so far. The reason for this is that while you will have probably done some heavy hauling before, the terrain and roads that you are dealing with here make your job very hard.

One trouble I had was my trailer being so low and it getting stuck as I went off the road a tad. To be fair this was my own fault, but I can see some people getting frustrated. You really do have to think and pay attention more in this DLC than any of the previous ones.

If you are a fan of the series then I feel that the four bucks they are asking for this is more than fair. It gives you a lot more “missions” to complete and having more loads to haul is always something I am down for. So, if you are a fan of the series, getting this DLC is a no-brainer for me.

Overall, I do feel that this is a fun expansion. It is not as large as the last one, but to be fair that is to be expected. It adds some very challenging hauls and I had a lot of fun trying to figure out the best way to get my haul to those loggers as quickly as possible. I do feel that American Truck Simulator – Forest Machinery is the most challenging DLC so far, but that is not a bad thing.
