The Sims 3: Pets is the fifth official downloadable expansion of the popular life simulation, which allows the player to interact with animals. The game was launched on 21 October 2011. It works on Windows, Mac OS X, and also on the consoles PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo 3DS. The game was published by Electronic Arts Inc. just like the previous and the following editions, from the first Sims game – The Sims to The Sims 4.

The Pets extension introduces new options in the game. Each of the Sims we have created can now become the master of his or her own cat, dog, or even horse. The game, however, has more to offer than simple pet care ability. We can play as a pet!. The player who controls an animal can now do many new things. Digging holes in search of a tasty bone or chasing other animals is just the tip of the iceberg. We can do much more.
There are 100 animal species or breeds of dogs and cats we can choose from. The available ones are for example are sheepdog or Maine Coon cat. With our pets, we can visit new locations specially designed for The Sims 3: Pets. Thus we have parks where we can go for a walk and ranches where we can take care of horses. There is even a jungle for cats.
The introduction of horses means that we can now do horse breeding or become a jockey. It’s also a chance to play with the animal and teach it how to win a race or jump over obstacles. Still, if we’re fans of smaller animals, it’s worth to note that the dog owners can try to teach their pets tricks. Whether we can succeed in this depends on several factors. It depends very much on how we treat our animal. It also depends on its character and mood – our animal can be stubborn and not willing to learn, or quite the contrary – an ace who masters every trick with ease. In the latter case, we can teach our pet how to hunt or how to search for lost or hidden items.
The Character of Our Animals
Fun is important but so are duties. We need to provide items that our pet will need. A bowl for food, a place to sleep, toys to play with – everything has to be where our animal expects to find it. By doing so we make our lovely pet happy. It’s also worth to note, that just like people, our pets can get moody. The animals have also memories and can work together to achieve a goal. When creating our pet we need to give it character traits that will influence its behavior. In the case of horses, we can choose such traits as aggressive, noisy, obedient, or friendly. For the dogs, we can choose between aggressive, afraid of water, silly, or tidy. The cats can have traits just like dogs but obviously cannot be faithful.
