The Universim

As someone who has always been a sucker for a god sim style game. The Universim is a game that has been on my radar for quite some time. Not only does this have its own style. The development team said that they wanted this to feel like the god sim games we all played back in the ’90s.

The Game Review

The idea behind The Universim is that you are in charge of a group of “people” called Nuggets. Nuggets are very similar to us and they are fragile, but with the right kind of guidance they can achieve greatness and that is where you come in. You will need to help guide them from basic beginnings all the way to a cultured civilization.

What is cool is that in the early days, Nuggets are pretty much dependent on you and need your interference more often. Eventually, though they will advance enough where they can go about their lives and need very little interference from you. This sounds like it would be boring, but actually, you have to keep an eye on what is going on and what the Nuggets are up to.

Pretty much everything that happens in The Universim will have some kind of reaction. For example, if the Nuggets hunt and eat a particular species too much then it can become extinct. If they have a habit of deforestation then the temperature will change. There are a ton of things that you have to keep an eye on to basically protect the nuggets from themselves.

There are different planets that The Nuggets can live on. Each planet has its own challenges. While some might be right with resources, they may also have dangerous wildlife. Some may have very little resources and others may be frequently devastated by natural disasters. This always keeps you on your toes and makes sure that you have to keep a close eye on what is happening.

You want your Nuggets to be as happy as possible so you will have to make sure that they are fed, have stuff to drink and of course have a decent quality of life. Sometimes Nuggets can go rogue and develop a love for blowing things up! Just when you think you have things figured out something else will happen and require you to work your god-like powers to try and fix it.

The user interface is very easy to get to grips with and while you have a lot of options at your fingertips. The developers have been clever and made sure that the game is very easy to learn. Some god sims go way overboard with making things over complicated, but that is not the case with The Universim.

There is already quite a lot to do in The Universim and I think that the future looks very bright for this game. However, it is worth noting that as I write this the game is still in early access. If you loved games like Sim City, Theme Park, Theme Hospital and so on I feel that this is the game for you. I had a real blast with this and I cannot want to see what other stuff they have planned for the game.
