Avicii – Wake Me Up

It has been almost four years that Avicii has left. But, his soulful music is still in our hearts and minds for eternity. He was a successful DJ, musician, and songwriter. Avicii gave us some striking songs. One of those songs in Wake me up was released back in the year 2013. This song is a lead single from Avicci’s debut studio album, True, 2013. The song made its way to YouTube on July 29, 2013, and has been viewed over 2.1 billion times.

The Song Review

A Fun Experiment!

Avicii referred to this song as “a fun experiment” while talking to MTV UK. His fun experiment turned out to be an utter banger, which got a howling success. Wake me up took the music charts by storm globally. It grabbed the No. 1 spot on the UK Singles Chart. Moreover, it became the bestselling song in the United Kingdom.

This was just the start of this song’s success. The big thing is that Wake Me Up took the No. 1 spot in 22 countries. Avicii’s untimely death in 2018 also added to this song’s success. In the year 2018, it went on to become the most searched song on the Shazam App.

After its release, the song was in the top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100 for straight 21 weeks. The song also took the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay in September of 2013. Moreover, the song received 15 Platinum certifications from ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association). In addition to that, it was certified as Platinum 6 times by the USA’s RIAA and 5 times by the BPI in the UK. In this way, the song performed phenomenally in the commercial aspect.

A Chart Friendly EDM!

The track received favorable reviews from various critics.

Digital Spy wrote about the song, “As a chart-friendly EDM continues to reach the fullest corners of the globe. Staying ahead of the pack can prove to be a tricky task”.

For this song, the collaboration between Avicii and Aloe Blacc garnered positive reviews. Honestly, it is a major player and factor in the success of this song.

The music video of Wake me up became a center of attraction. Let us talk about that below.

Wake Me Up – Music Video

The music video is a meaningful masterpiece. Well, it was bound to be one. Because it was directed by none other than Mark Seliger. The incredible video features the famed Russian fashion model named Kristina Romanova and a child artist named Laneya Grace. The music video also has scenes from Avicii’s concerts. It was shot in various locations, including California, Santa Clara River, and Downtown Los Angeles.

The video is just beautiful. It depicts a young mother and her daughter residing in a village where everyone hates them. One morning, the mother hops on a horse and sets out to a nearby village. It turns out the people in that village are kind. That girl meets a woman who has Avicii’s logo as a birthmark.

The video takes a turn. They both get in a truck and head to LA, where they attend Avicii’s concert. The next day, the mother comes back to the daughter and tells her that she has found a new place to live. It is that nearby village, and she refers to that as “somewhere they belong.”
