I put so much time into Persona 5 that my wife would often say “are you playing that again?”. Persona 5 Strikers is one of my most anticipated titles of 2021. It is quite interesting that the game is not just on PlayStation, but also Nintendo Switch and PC, so perhaps those platforms may see Persona 5 Royal released on them at some point?

The Game Review
Some people are still under the impression that this is a side game. However, they could have called this Persona 5 Part 2 and after playing it I would have been cool with it. This is a direct follow on from the events of Persona 5. While Atlus has said that this game is fine for people who did not play Persona 5, I have to disagree with that and say you will be missing out on a lot if you come into this blind.
I do not want to go into spoilers in regards to the story so I will be very brief. The story takes place a few months after the events of Persona 5 and the Phantom Thieves are on a road trip around Japan trying to save cities from corruption. There are many twists, turns and quite shocking moments and the writing and voice acting is fantastic.
Persona 5 Strikers is also a fantastic-looking game. It retains the same style as the previous game, but things are sharper and generally look better this time around. The soundtrack is also amazing and it is one that I will 100 percent pick up if it gets a physical release down the road.
What caught many people’s attention about Persona 5 Strikers was the gameplay. Rather than being a turn-based JRPG which the series is known for. This is a “warriors” style game, but rather than taking the Dynasty Warriors style and slapping Persona 5 graphics over it as Hyrule Warriors did, Strikers is its own unique thing entirely.
The game is very fast-paced as you would expect. You will fight tons and tons of enemies and each character that you have in your party has their own abilities and attacks. So, while you are doing the same thing over and over again, it still manages to have a lot of variety to it.
Also, Personas as you would expect play a major part in the game and there are a ton that you can use. What is interesting about this is that when you are using Personas things change and it slows down and you have to use a command menu. This is a great touch and it gives Persona 5 Strikers a very unique gameplay style over the other Warriors games.
You always need to have Joker in your party, but you can have three other members of The Phantom Thieves in it as well. While you take direct control over Joker during the downtime, during battles, you can take direct control over anyone in your party. As someone who spent a ton of time with these characters in Persona 5, I thought it was awesome to be able to control them like this.
There is a ton of content in this game you have the dungeons which are huge and full of puzzles to solve, enemies to fight, and of course, awesome bosses! You also have a ton of side content and “bonding” that you can do as well with the different characters. I do not see how anyone who played Persona 5 could be disappointed with what this is offering.
- The story is fantastic
- The game looks amazing
- You can take control of anyone in your party
- The game is very fast-paced and a lot of fun
- It is cool it is available on platforms other than PlayStation
- The Nintendo Switch version really does struggle
- I do not think it would be a great game if you have no experience with Persona 5
