I was bored the other day so I decided to strip down to my underwear and take those old records off the shelf and strut around the living room! Ok, so I may have not done that, but I did watch Risky Business for the first time in a very long time and I am happy to say that this coming of age comedy still holds up! This is just as much fun today as it was the first time I saw it in the early 90s which was already a decade after it had been released.

The Movie Review
This is known for two things mainly, one, this is often regarded as the movie that truly made Tom Cruise a star, everything from this point was just up and up! It is also known for the iconic scene of him dancing in his underwear to the classic Old Time Rock & Roll by Bob Seger.
The Story of Joel: A Wild Ride
The story here is about a high school student called Joel who is played by Tom Cruise. Joel comes from a wealthy family and his father wants him to go to Princeton when he graduates high school. Joel is a good kid at heart and it is very easy to like him pretty much right from the start of the movie. His parents are going away on vacation and they are leaving Joel alone in the house.
One of Joel’s buddies, Miles has a fantastic idea! Miles suggests to Joel that he has a little fun while his parents are away and he orders Joel an escort for the evening! Well, turns out that this escort was actually a man and Joel kind of freaks out and ends up paying them just so that they will leave. However, before they leave, they give Joel the number of an escort called Lana who is played by Rebecca De Mornay, who as I have mentioned her name I do have to mention how awesome she is in The Hand That Rocks the Cradle!
A Night to Remember
Joel ends up calling Lana and they have a wild and passionate night. However, Lana steals a very expensive fancy egg and in his quest to get it back, he falls into trouble with her pimp Guido who is played by Joe Pantoliano. Lana ends up introducing her friend, Vicky to Joel and after taking his fathers Porsche for a joyride it ends up in the river and it is going to cost a fortune to repair.
Joel thinks that he is screwed, but the ladies have a great idea! To raise the money Joel needs to repair his dads car, they will turn his house into a brothel for the night. To say that this is a success is an understatement, but Guido is not done with Joel just yet! The whole ending scene with Joel trying to get the house back together is so much fun and something that any teenager who has thrown a house party will be able to relate too.
Why Risky Business is Still Awesome
Risky Business is awesome! This truly is a super fun movie that even though it is actually over 40 years old as I write this, does not feel dated. It has characters that you come to really like, so many fun scenes and it is truly one of the best coming of age movies of the 1980’s, hell I would argue of all time! I have this on Blu-Ray, but I really do need to add that Criterion Collection 4K release of this to my collection, perhaps Santa (or Krampus) can get it for me in 2025!
