In the 2010s we had what I consider to be the golden age of Cartoon Network! Cartoon Network was firing on all cylinders at this time and one of those top shows was The Amazing World of Gumball. This show is still shown in syndication and when I catch an episode or two, it never fails to make me laugh.

The Amazing World of Gumball – an Enthusiastic Review
The show is about The Watterson family. The Waterson family consists of the titular character, Gumball who is a 12-year-old cat. Gumball is a fantastic character, he is like an exaggerated version of what you would imagine a 12-year-old kid would be like. While his name is in the title, we have other main characters too.
The rest of the Watterson family is Gumball’s adopted brother, Darwin, who was their pet fish at first! Darwin is the same age as Gumball and I love the relationship and the schtick that these two characters have together. Even when they changed voice actors, the charm and fun of these characters did not go away.
We also have their younger sister, Anais who is a rabbit and super smart and often bothered by her brother’s crazy antics. Then we have Richard who is a rabbit and the dad, Richard is my favorite character. Richard is a stay-at-home dad and Richard takes dumb to a whole new level and it is freaking hilarious.
Richard is complimented very well by his wife, Nicole. Nicole is a cat and she is a hard-working, no-nonsense mom that is always about one second away from an angry outburst. The Watterson’s are a fantastic family and the way that they get into so many crazy adventures, many of which actually bring them together is what I love about the show.
The thing is, there are so many more great characters in The Amazing World of Gumball! The whole town of Elmore is such a wild and crazy place and the kids at the school and the other people in the town often get their own moments to shine. I particularly love the other kids at the school and the various relationships that Gumball and Darwin have with them. I think my favorite is the robot, Bobert, or the boombox Juke.
The Amazing World of Gumball has a very interesting art style as it uses your traditional animated characters over real backgrounds and after a while, you do not even notice it. It also gives the show a look unlike any other show and I think that makes it stand out and be something unique in a sea of amazing shows that were happening while this show was on air.
What I think makes The Amazing World of Gumball such a great show is the way that it is not just for kids. Yes, kids will love this, but adults can also have a lot of fun with this show. There are some parts that I am sure will go over kid’s heads and I think that the writers here really did create an amazing show with this. I am glad that Cartoon Network still air this, but I wish they did it more often!
