When I first started playing American Truck Simulator a few years back I had no idea how addicted I would become. I have long been into shows like Ice Road Truckers and Shipping Wars so playing this was the next best thing. What I am looking at today is the New Mexico expansion which was released in 2017.
How to Download American Truck Simulator – New Mexico
You can download this DLC from Steam. Check out also how it is to drive in other states: Oregon, Washington, and Utah.
The Game Review
The gameplay on offer here in American Truck Simulator – New Mexico is pretty much exactly the same as the base version of the game and the Arizona expansion. So, if you liked what the original offered, you will love this. However, if the original did nothing for you then there is not enough here to win you or other new players over in my opinion.
The idea of the game is to get these big loads and haul them all over the sun-drenched areas of New Mexico. There are 14 cities in the game for you to navigate through such as Albuquerque and Santa Fe. For me, it is the off the beaten path areas of New Mexico that really made this expansion for me.
Driving along what feels like a never-ending dessert is cool. As is seeing that blood-red sun rise and fall as you drive into the wee hours of the morning. This is an area that has a ton of personality and it certainly makes driving your huge ass truck very interesting. Speaking of driving, let us get to that now.
When you first play American Truck Simulator – New Mexico if you played the original you know what to expect. The handling of these big monsters takes a while to get used to, but when you do there is something very relaxing about hauling these huge loads. Each area has its own challenging. Be it dealing with other traffic in a city or dealing with tight winding roads as you go through the remote areas.
There are many truck stops added to the game which is really cool. You always want to stop at these so you can rest and get a chance to refuel your truck. Taking in the sights and sounds of New Mexico is really cool, but you do not want to take your eyes off the road too long. I have gone off the road or rear-ended people far too many times because of this!
I had a great time with American Truck Simulator – New Mexico, but I am someone who also had a great time with the original installment. The New Mexico area is lovely to drive through and I think there is a nice mixture of large cities and big sprawling open areas too. If you enjoy ATS, be sure to get this expansion as it is a lot of fun
