How I got to the point where I became addicted to the American Truck Simulator series is beyond me, but here we are. American Truck Simulator: Idaho is the latest expansion for the series and it is fantastic. Well, I say fantastic, but that, in all honesty, is only true if the series already has its hooks in you.

The Game Review
The great state of Idaho is not a part of the USA I know a great deal about. We all know about the potatoes, but this expansion really will open your eyes to how diverse this part of the USA is. You have over 3 thousand new miles to traverse and 11 brand new cities to drive through as well as many areas of the beaten path to explore.
The real star in American Truck Simulator: Idaho is the state itself. It is one of the most diverse locations to be featured in ATS so far. In the northern parts of the state you have these wonderful forest type areas and, in the south, you have epic mountain type areas. It really makes going on a long-haul trip an adventure more than just a task.
Speaking of “tasks”, like all other games in the series hauling loads is what you will be doing. I liked how there was a decent amount of industries in this expansion such as logging and farming for you to work with. It makes hauling loads way more interesting when there is a bit of diversity to them.
As far as the actual driving goes, nothing has changed. That to me is a good thing as I am already a fan. However, I do see if you have tried the game before and it was not for you, I cannot see this expansion winning you over. This expansion features 11 cities such as Boise and I liked how spread out there were. It is a hard thing to explain, but there is just something cool about coming into a city after being on the open road for a long time.
There are tons of landmarks, truck stops, and more for you to discover on your travels. A new cinematic camera feature has been added and it is pretty cool. The idea is that when you come to a landmark or something special, the game will do what is pretty much a cut scene and show it off while you are driving. This was something I thought was a fun and novel feature.
Once again, I had a great time with ATS! I was not sure what to expect with American Truck Simulator: Idaho, but it turned out to be one of the best expansions yet. Yes, not much if anything has actually changed with the core game. However, the diversity of Idaho is awesome and makes each job a true adventure.
