How many game launchers do we need? Well, at least one more according to Rockstar as their Rockstar Games Launcher has (well for me at least) came out of nowhere. Rockstar is one of my favorite developers/publishers around so I am willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt.

The Program Review
Let’s start with the best thing (well for a limited time anyway) currently about this launcher. If you sign up and download it now, you get a free copy of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. This game currently goes for 15 bucks on Steam, plus it is an awesome game so that right there makes installing the Rockstar Games Launcher a worthwhile thing.
Are you a fan of Grand Theft Auto V? Well if you are and if you have the game purchased on Steam, you actually need the Rockstar Game Launcher to play it now. So really, if you love GTA V or even just the online component, you really have no choice. To be fair this is not the first time a developer has done this.
To sign in to the Rockstar Games Launcher, you will need to create a Rockstar Social Club ID. If you already play GTA V, you will probably already have one. I can see them integrating all of the features from the Social Club such as the selfies, high scores, stats and so on into the game’s launcher at some point.
Downloading it and using it is simple enough. You can purchase Rockstar games directly from the launcher, but from I could tell, there is no price difference between buying the games here or via Steam. Still, if you are a Rockstar fan, you do know that all of the money is going directly to Rockstar so that is something which some of you may be happy about.
So, what is the point of the Rockstar Games Launcher? Well, clearly Rockstar wants to have more control over what happens with their games and I get that. However, I may be looking into this too much, but I have a feeling that a Red Dead Redemption 2 announcement for PC could be on the cards very soon! Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best games of this console generation so it coming to PC will be huge!
As far as the user interface goes. Overall the UI is rather barebones, but it is still done in a kind of slick way that you would expect from Rockstar. Seriously, this launcher is not really doing anything groundbreaking, but as this is Rockstar, you would have to think they do have some big plans in store.
So, is the Rockstar Games Launcher worth downloading on your PC? Well if you play Grand Theft Auto V you have no choice. Most likely, if RDR2 or another Rockstar game comes out, you will have no choice. Also, the fact that you get a free copy of the excellent Grand Theft Auto San Andreas to me makes downloading this well worth it.
